My direct contributions to this video design included all art & creative direction. This includes storyboarding the concept, refining client message, created static illustrations, giving direction to animation outsource vendor and aligning creative to corporate brand standards. As producer, I coordinated all activities with client, project-managed the animator, selected voice-over talent & music. I also refined copy with the client’s SME.

PROBLEMS

My client is expanding this Line-of-Business which is outside of their core business while conveying the same level of expertise. This video served as B2B content that explained how the complex product works with their proprietary technology.

PROCESS

  • Core message and intent was conveyed by client as a starting point.

  • Core message was refine to script outline based on the timeline for a long-format video.

  • Discussion with SME to understand the product, how it works, it’s value props.

  • Visual design and creative research.

  • Sketched storyboard during a meeting with the SME that aligned to refined script.

  • Discussion on project, budget, timeline, creative direction and goals with the animator.

  • I provided vector-based illustrations to animator that served as reference and guidance.

DELIVERY

This project was released in high-resolution for trade show application. It concurrently served as gated content for a Google Ad campaign.

OUTCOME

A successful project that met the deadline for the trade show and came in on-budget.

RESPONSE

This project was first-use of animated motion design by the client. They were very pleased that it was able to capture the complexity of the product without being too technical.

They used image captures of the video for social media snippets. Client was impressed how we conveyed the complexity of the product when their engineers had trouble explaining it.

BARRIERS

  • Explaining the long build cycle for animated projects because it was longer than expected. But, we still met the goals of the trade show where the product launched.

  • Working with a large number of client stakeholders which all had inputs, but I needed a client-side point person to drive internal progress.
